Three Resolutions For Dealing With Diabetes In The New Year

Posted on

As you know, the beginning of the new year is the time for making resolutions. And if you have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, it is especially important that you set new goals that can have a positive impact on your health and your future. The following are three of those New Year resolutions that can help you improve your diabetic treatment

Try Yoga

When you are feeling stressed out and anxious, your blood sugar levels tend to go up. Stress can also cause you to neglect your health. That is why yoga can be so helpful for you in dealing with your diabetes. Yoga teaches its practitioners ways to cope with stress, such as concentrating on one's breath and focusing on the present. Some forms of yoga, including vinyasa, are also good exercise, which is always beneficial for anyone dealing with diabetes.

Consider Alternatives Medicines to Deal with Your Diabetes

Doctors and prescription medicines become entwined with your life once you've been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. But there are times when you may want to seek alternative treatments. For example, if you are currently suffering with peripheral neuropathy caused by your diabetes, you may want to consider seeing a chiropractor. According to the Diabetes New Journal, chiropractic care can be an effective way to treat peripheral neuropathy, which causes numbness, prickling or tingling sensations in a patient's extremities.

While chiropractic care cannot cure peripheral neuropathy, a chiropractor can make adjustments to relieve any pressure that may be building on the spinal nerves. This is a better alternative to pain medications, which just mask the sensations caused by the peripheral neuropathy. In addition, a recent study published by the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research showed that chiropractic care to correct misalignment in the spinal column may help a patient to resume normal blood glucose levels.

Join a Support Group

Being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes can be devastating and frightening. That is why it can be helpful to join a support group where you can meet others who are also dealing with the disease. Fortunately, in most areas, you can find a number of groups on the Meetup Internet site that will connect you with other diabetics. Some are designed to help those with questions to learn more about their condition, while others have names such as Having Fun with Diabetes and Making Diabetes Social.

Hopefully, with the help of these resolutions, you'll be able to better deal with your diabetes in the New Year.
