Suffering From Blurred Vision After An Accident? Turn To Your Local Chiropractor

Posted on

After you've been in a car accident, you may be dealing with several lingering effects that are bothering you. A stiff neck and pain in your lower back are common, and these issues can often compel you to arrange treatment through a chiropractor in your community. However, there are other car accident injuries that you might not immediately associate with chiropractic care, but that this type of healthcare practitioner can indeed address. Blurry vision is something that some people experience as a result of being in a car accident, especially if they sustained a whiplash injury. Your chiropractor can also address this type of ailment.

Assess The Blurry Vision

Blurry vision sustained during a car accident doesn't necessarily mean that you received an eye injury. Instead, this issue can occur because of trauma to your neck. For example, if your body went through a whiplash motion, the many nerves and muscles that run through your neck and into your head and face can be pinched or otherwise disrupted. Many of these nerves lead to your eyes. This means that, if these nerves have been affected by the whiplash motion from your car accident, you may end up with blurry vision. Your chiropractor will begin by assessing your neck and other areas to determine the specific reason for your blurry vision.

Provide Gentle Treatment

A chiropractor can adjust your neck in multiple ways, but he or she will often use a gentle technique known as joint mobilization. This approach allows the chiropractor to move the neck around to relieve pressure on the nerves and muscles that are contributing to your blurry vision, but without vigorously cracking your neck — which is something that some chiropractic patients may not enjoy. Fully fixing your blurred vision may take a few appointments, and your chiropractor may also give you some exercises to try at home.

Address Other Issues

If you're dealing with blurry vision that has resulted from being in a car accident, there's a high probability that you may have some other physical issues. While your primary focus may be to get rid of the blurry vision, your chiropractor will want to look at your body overall to see what injuries you may have sustained — even if you aren't initially aware of them. For example, a lower back injury is common in car accidents, but you may not have pain right away. By assessing your body, including giving you an X-ray if needed, your chiropractor can identify other problems so that he or she can treat them.
